Rules:

• Players MUST have an official Molecular Pathway Generator account
• Players form teams consisting of 1-6 players
• Each day at midnight local time players will receive a new secret organic chemical to guess.
• The player's score for the day will be the number of guesses taken to solve the correct secret organic chemical. Taking the hint for number of Degrees of unsaturation will result in a 5 guess penalty. Taking the hint for the Chemical formula will result in a 10 guess penalty. There will be no double penalty for taking both hints (taking both the chemical formula and degrees of unsaturation hints will result in a total penalty of 10 guesses, not 15). Any molecules NOT solved will cause a 50 guess penalty.
• Teams' scores will be calculated by dividing the sum of the scores of all players on that team by the number of players on that team.
• Each team's score for the month will be the sum of the scores for all 31 days. The team with the lowest total score will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, there will be one extra run-off secret organic chemical for which each tying team will chose one member to solve. The player with the lowest score of the run-off chemical will be declared the winner. If there is still a tie, this process will be repeated until resolved.
• Players will be required under the honor code not to share the answers of ANY secret organic chemicals with teammates, on reddit forums, or ANYWHERE else on the internet or in any other capacity. Players will receive DIFFERENT SECRET organic chemicals everyday, so a chemical may be used on multiple days.

Guess the secret organic chemical

Each guess must be the name of an organic chemical. Either the systematic IUPAC name or the common name of the chemical is accepted. As you type in the name of the chemical, OChemdle will look up that chemical, and if it is recognized will display the molecular structure of the chemical. After OChemdle has recognized your chemical name, you may officially guess it by clicking the "Guess" button.

After you enter a valid guess, OChemdle will give you a similarity score between your guess and the secret organic chemical ranging from 0 to 1.

Hints Feeling stuck? Try the following:

• Try entering names of organic molecules with different functional groups. Try Amines, Alcohols, Ethers, Aldehydes, Carboxylic Acids, Ketones, Nitriles, Esters, etc.
• Try designing a molecule from scratch using our molecule design tool. Then copy the molecule IUPAC name into the Molecule Name guess field.
• Getting close? You can also click on the molecule name of one of your guesses to view that molecule in our molecule design tool. Change a few bonds. Change the stereochemistry. Try adding or removing a few atoms. Then try using the IUPAC name of your new molecule in the Molecule Name guess field.
